Bloomberg New Economy Solutions: Prepare Workers for the New Economy

Solution Sessions are part of year-round programming by Bloomberg New Economy designed to continue the conversations held at the forum. These small active working sessions feature influential decision makers from the private and public sectors to explore specific and tangible opportunities for action.

Bloomberg New Economy Solutions held a working session on June 26th in Singapore to discuss how the private sector can serve and support workers and citizens in the new economy. This was a continuation of the work conducted on-site during the Develop a Corporate Certification Program for Workers Reskilling workshop at the 2018 Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore.

The session was chaired by Dr. Mona Mourshed, Founding CEO of Generation, and geared towards identifying concrete actions business leaders can take to support disconnected people to build thriving sustainable careers while providing employers with the highly skilled, motivated talent they need. Attendee perspectives were invaluable in exploring specific and tangible opportunities for action in the near term, and for building the partnerships necessary for sustained long-term impact.

The session highlighted the ReGeneration program in Singapore which seeks to close the skills gap for mid-career employees whose jobs have been displaced due to automation and digitization, or who are returning to the workforce after a hiatus. Attendees heard directly from a panel of ReGeneration alumni who had graduated from the Digital Marketing program about their lives before, during and after the program. From there, attendees then broke into groups to discuss how their organizations could: combat bias in recruiting and planning, be more proactive planners, better integrate their employees.
